Our Station in Wartime - 14th July
Our July event took place on a blisteringly hot Saturday.
Needless to say, the ice cream cart and bars did a roaring trade, but there were lots of other food and drink options, too - both hot and cold - to tempt our visitors.
The Vintage Collective Group pulled out all the stops and really made the day go with a swing. Our excellent 1940's radio artists, Paul and Don kept us thoroughly entertained with their singing and witty repartee and the G.I's in the group treated everyone to an energetic spot of jiving!
Despite the heat, St. Teresa's RC Primary and Irlam High School students rose to the occasion and earned well-deserved applause for their performances. St. Teresa's Year 6 children's propaganda posters and evocative pieces of writing also made interesting and inspiring displays.
There were some stalls and a wide range of wartime artefacts on show, from jeeps, hand grenades and guns to medals, photographs and local history records.
All combined to make for a most enjoyable, visual and audible trip down 'Memory Lane'.
