Preparing for War
We’ve been putting together the finishing touches for our Station at War event. On Saturday 15 July, we’ll be going back in time and recreating the wartime years.
Throughout the day, there’ll be vintage vehicles and wartime memorabilia on display and performances from the Evergreens Choir, Jozekidz, Irlam Gems and popular songs from the era.
You can discover more about wartime tactics at the army shooting range and traditional children’s games with the 1st Cadishead Beaver and Clubs Scouts group.
You can immerse yourselves in the spirit of the day, by dressing up in your finest 1940s wear. We’ll be choosing the best dressed in our Children’s Fancy Dress Competition in the afternoon. There’ll also be family activities, where you undertake your patriotic duty and Make Do and Mend or Dig for Victory.
You can uncover how people kept calm and carried on during the war as we’ll be joined by a re-enactment group, who’ll be inviting you to get hands on with their washday demonstrations. The Irlam and Cadishead History Society and local war historian Pete Thompson will be joining us so you can delve even further into our local history and explore how the community survived through the war.
As well as activities there’ll be stalls from local organisations including Shine a Light and the Veteran’s Garage and from midday, The Station’s field kitchen will be open, serving delicious hotpot dishes.
Take a look at our poster below for timings.
If you’re planning on popping along, part of the car park will be cornered off for the vintage vehicles, so parking will be very limited. We suggest walking up or parking in in other local car parks.
See you from 10am!
